Return to Play Protocol

8 May 2020 by Carlos Rodas

Hello Everyone,
I hope this message finds everyone safe and healthy. Our coaches are meeting tonight to formulate a return to play protocol so that we may resume practices using guidelines set forth by the government in Phase 1 of reopening Rhode Island. While we realize if we polled a hundred people we would get a hundred different answers on when’s the best time to restart, we also understand that many of our athletes our counting on us to achieve their softball dreams of playing college softball. The only way we know to achieve that is through working hard when others don’t think it’s necessary, Having said that we will slowly begin restarting with small group practices beginning this weekend starting with our oldest kids and working our way back over the next week. In order to achieve these practices we will establish many safety protocols that need to be maintained. The three main factors being PPE, sanitation and spacing which will be discussed tonight with the coaches and set forth at each practice. We of course will need our athletes help in achieving this new “normal “ going forward. We will also ask parents to drop off or stay in car until we reach a less restrictive Phase of reopening RI. We also ask that anyone who feels ill in ANY way please refrain from trying to participate in any events as we plan to take temperatures of each athlete before entering practice and must wear a mask unless appropriate social distance can be maintained. We will provide plenty of hand sanitizer and make sure all gear , balls and stations are disinfected with each use. We do ask that athletes use the facilities before practice as we would like to keep public restrooms for emergency only. We will also have a 10 minute window between groups to allow each to have as little exposure as possible. Groups will also remain the same throughout phase 1 so that each athlete is only exposing themselves to the same 4 teammates each time out. We believe these precautions will allow us to open up as safely as humanly possible

As far as Summer schedules we are looking at every available opportunity to play this summer at each teams appropriate age group and level. We do not have any answers at this time other than we do have many plans in place. One thing that has become quite clear is that our current schedules will change and could change again as different opportunities open up. We have already been offered a few spots in different summer leagues and tournaments from organizers who own their own fields, which we feel have the most likelihood of being able to host anything over the next few months.

Because of this , We are asking that as we begin to open up is that ALL unpaid tuition be turned in at this time. When this thing hit we turned off all notifications and reminders regarding tuition as we understand how it has effected so many financially. Unfortunately our bills have continued to compile and our main concern is that most of the canceled tournaments have just kicked the can to 2020-2021(which is great going into next year as we expect to have extra tournaments at each age group) but leaves us short to pay for any new opportunities that may come up this summer. Therefore we are asking that all tuition be paid in full before your athlete resumes practice.

We do plan on distributing uniforms ( if paid in full) ,calendar raffle prizes and team store gear as each team comes in over the next week as well as the elite mask ( Yes they are late! We should hear today).
but please let us know if anything was missed as 9 weeks has passed on some of these things.

I will end by saying we understand that some may not be comfortable returning to practice and shouldn’t if they live at home with someone who is elderly or has compromising conditions but we do feel as that we are doing the right thing by offering our clientele what they have come to expect from us. (No athlete will be punished by missing practices). I am hoping if anyone has questions, concerns or simply doesn’t agree with us they call myself or Brian to discuss. Although we respect everyones opinion, We will not tolerate public protest. We do feel as we can offer our athletes the ability to practice that is easily safer than them going to the grocery store,Walmart,Lowe’s , or even to a neighbors house and We look forward to seeing you all over the next few weeks…. well from an appropriate six feet of course! Thank you
